Danville’s Lady Hawks are heading back to the Class 3A Northwest Regional next week after defeating Cordova 59-38 Thursday night at home.

Danville outscored Cordova 34-8 over the final 12 minutes of the game, turning a five-point for the Lady Blue Devils into a 21-point rout for Danville.

Sloan Lindsey, the only member left from the 2010-2011 team that finished second in Class 3A, said the key was relaxing and not playing tight.

“I think we finally calmed down and started playing defense without fouling,” Lindsey said. “At halftime, we talked about the three P’s – poise, purpose and patience – and that’s what we did in the second half.”

After the win, Lindsey got to do something that her teammates didn’t do two years ago – cut down the nets after a home sub-regional win.

“I was just overwhelmed with emotion,” Lindsey said. “It was just awesome to get to play at home.”
