Tigers advance in county tourney

Hartselle’s varsity boys and girls basketball teams were winners in opening round games of the Morgan County Basketball Tournament in Priceville on Monday night.

The Tigers (6-13) chalked up a 60-28 win over Falkville’s Blue Devils (8-13) and advanced to the tournament’s semi-final round. The will face top-seeded West Morgan Thursday at 8 p.m.

The Lady Tigers (5-8) pulled off a 55-45 win over Priceville’s Lady Bulldogs (9-16). They will meet top-seeded Brewer (13-0) in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Tigers had three players score in double figures. Preston Adams led the way with 17 points while Timbo Slaton and Thomas Fleischman added 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Quanesha Burks and Riley Terry each had 12 points to lead the Lady Tigers in scoring. Kaylee Shelton and Sarah Horner each added nine points.

Emily Cunningham paced the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points. She scored 10 of those points on made free throws.

Hartselle’s freshman team landed a berth in the finals of the tournament by defeating Falkville 53-35. They will face the winner of the Danville vs. Priceville game on Sat., Jan. 26, at 1 p.m.
