FALKVILLE – The Lexington Golden Bears visited Falkville on Friday night and left with their third victory of the season with a 24-7 win.
The Blue Devils actually led the contest 7-6 by first quarter's end. But things went awry late in the game for Falkville.
With 8:16 left in the first quarter the Golden Bears got the scoring started with a two-yard run by their quarterback, Brandon Dawson. The PAT was no good. Shortly thereafter, Corey Simpson intercepted a Dawson pass to set up the Blue Devils' score. With 4:48 left in the first quarter, Steven Holt ran the ball in from the 12-yard line. Brandon Stiles added the extra point for the 7-6 lead.
The Golden Bears scored at the 9:38 mark of the second period. Once again, Dawson ran in for the score, this time from three-yards out. The two-point conversion was good and the Lexington Bears took the lead never to relinquish it.
Early in the third quarter, Stiles intercepted a Dawson pass, but unfortunately for the Blue Devils, Lexington picked off a pass just a minute later.
Falkville only trailed 14-7 heading into the fourth quarter, but the game quickly got out of hand as the Golden Bears recorded a safety.
Three minutes after the safety, Josh Stutts ran the ball in for the Golden Bears from the six-yard line. The two-point conversion was good, making what proved to be the final score, 24-7.
