The Priceville Bulldogs (1-0) and the Brewer Patriots (0-1) both kicked started the basketball season in rivalry fashion on Tuesday. The more seasoned Patriots led the matchup until the final minutes of regulation until the young Bulldogs steamed ahead on a 14-0 point run to claim a home opening victory 54-49.

“Brewer is always a big game for our kids and their kids,” said Priceville Head Coach Darrell Haynes. “It’s always exciting to open a season with a game like that.”

The opening win is what Coach Haynes was hoping for to help cement his young team and will build some confidence before heading to Lawrence County on the Bulldogs first road matchup on November 16.

“It’s going to take some time for these kids to come together and gel but I expect steady progress through the season,” Haynes said.

Though the season did not begin in the way the Patriots would have hoped, the game against Priceville will assist the Patriots as they now turn their attention to Cullman.

“The loss was disappointing but it does help us,” said Brewer Head Coach Doug Oldacre. “This game will motivate us to work harder. We need to execute better and learn from our mistakes. The kids know what they need to do to fix the problems and we will.”

Brewer will face Cullman in its home opener on Thur., Nov. 16.
