United way drive under way – Organizers lower goal in light of economic woes

The 2008-09 fundraising campaign for Morgan County United Way kicked off Sept. 9 with a breakfast meeting at Solutia in Decatur. A “Day of Caring” followed with volunteers spending time and resources helping out the organization’s participating agencies.
The campaign goal is $1.8 million, or about $80,000 less than what was raised last year. Former Decatur mayor Lynn Fowler is serving as campaign chairman. Staci McCormick, an employee of Hartselle Parks &Recreation Department, is a UW loaned executive who will direct fundraising activities in Hartselle. Her assigned clients includes Wal-Mart, city of Hartselle, Hartselle Utilities, Hartselle City Schools and ARC of Morgan County
In addition, two new agencies have been added. They are Tennessee Valley Outreach, a shelter to the homeless and the Child Advocacy Center of Morgan County, which assists law enforcement in the investigation of child abuses cases.”
McCormick said three fundraising events have been scheduled locally to raise money for the UW campaign, a follows.
