Ruben Studdard coming to Calhoun

Calhoun Community College will celebrate its 60th anniversary this year with several events scheduled throughout the year. On Sept. 27, the college will feature American Idol winner Ruben Studdard in concert. The outdoor event will begin at 7 p.m. on the lawn in front of Calhoun's Health Sciences Center, located on the northern end of the Decatur campus.
Opening acts for the 60th anniversary concert include local entertainers Dorothy Cole as Tina Turner, Ahead of the Wake, Monkee and the Spank Daddys and The Alabama Blues Brothers. Advance tickets are $10 for students with valid ID; $15 general admission and $20 day of the event. See www.calhoun.edu /ruben for ticket locations.
Concert attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. A number of food vendors will be available.
Another event scheduled for the 60th anniversary celebration will take place Oct. 5 when the college will dedicate its Health Sciences Center during an official ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. on the Decatur campus. Alabama Department of Postsecondary Chancellor Bradley Byrne will participate in this event, which will include tours of the building provided by students enrolled in Calhoun's health programs.
