Enquirer names all-area baseball team

The 2023 baseball season was filled with tremendous performances by players and coaches. The Hartselle Enquirer is proud to present the 2023 Enquirer all-area baseball team.

Player of the Year

Coleman “Bull” Mizell, Hartselle, Sr. OF: The University of Alabama signee hit .500 on the season with 64 hits and 58 RBI. He had 33 extra-base hits, including 15 home runs and scored 45 runs while stealing 25 bases.

Coach of the Year

Preston Potter, Priceville: Potter led the Bulldogs to a historic season as they finished 29-7 and reached the quarterfinals of the state playoffs. They also won an area championship and were ranked No. 1 in Class 4A after the end of the regular season.

The players

P: Jack Smith, Hartselle, Sr.: The Arkansas signee finished 8-2, allowing 17 hits and 17 runs (nine earned) while striking out 120 batters. Smith finished with a .936 ERA and a .847 WHIP. He had two complete game no-hitters, three shared no-hitters and one perfect game.

P: Thomas Kerby, Priceville, Sr.: The lefty had a 1.96 ERA with a record of 6-1 and two saves while striking out 104 batters.

P: Joseph Garrison, Priceville, Sr.: The Troy signee struck out 82 batters with a 2.62 ERA while finishing 9-3.

P: Nic Chumley, Hartselle, Jr.: Chumley finished 5-2 with a 3.12 ERA. He struck out 38 batters in 40 innings, allowing 45 hits and 25 runs.

C: Wes Walker, Priceville, Jr.: Walker hit .388 with 49 RBI and 10 home runs. He was a Class 4A first-team All-State selection.

C: Cam Palahach, Hartselle, Jr.: Palahach hit .374 with 46 hits and 28 RBI.

IF: Greyson Howard, Hartselle, Sr.: The senior hit.268 with 30 hits, 23 RBI and 19 runs scored.

IF: Cade Miles, Hartselle, Jr.: Miles hit .337 with 34 hits, 28 RBI, 31 runs scored and 25 stolen bases. He hit four home runs.

IF: Eli Tidwell, Hartselle, Sr.: Tidwell scored 41 runs while stealing 15 bases. He hit .313 with 46 hits, 22 RBI and three home runs.

IF: Zach Chaney, Priceville, Sr.: Chaney was a Class 4A first-team All-State selection after hitting .393 with 35 RBI, three home runs and 26 stolen bases while scoring 50 runs.

OF: Peyton Steele, Hartselle, Jr.: The Alabama commit hit .336 with 45 hits, seven home runs, and 35 RBI.

OF: Caden Burnett, Falkville, Sr.: Burnett hit .610 with 41 RBI, 45 runs scored and three home runs while stealing 27 bases.

OF: Jackson Randolph, Danville, Jr.: Randolph hit .391.

DH: Lawson Williams, Hartselle, Jr.: Williams hit .346 with 28 RBI and three home runs.

UTIL: Gage Taylor, Danville, Sr.: Tayler hit .506 with 26 RBI and five home runs.

UTIL: Dawson Fowler, Falkville, Jr.: Fowler hit .500 with 39 RBI and 34 runs scored.
