Standouts of the week

It was another exciting week of baseball, softball, tennis and soccer in the Hartselle area. Below are some of the standouts for the week ending April 29.

Baseball

Jack Smith, Hartselle: Smith tossed his second consecutive no-hitter in the Tigers’ 10-0 game two victory over Minor in the second round of the 6A playoffs.

Jace Meadows, Hartselle: Meadows, a freshman, threw a one-hit shutout in the Tigers’ 10-0 game one victory over Minor in the second round of the 6A playoffs.

Coleman Mizell, Hartselle: Mizell had three hits, including a triple and a double, three runs scored, two stolen bases and two RBI in the Tigers’ round two series win over Minor.

Peyton Steele, Hartselle: Steele had two hits, including a home run, and three RBI in the Tigers’ 10-0 game two victory over Minor in the second round of the 6A playoffs.

Greyson Howard, Hartselle: Howard had three hits, including two doubles, four RBI and two runs scored the Tigers’ round two series win over Minor.

Zach Chaney, Priceville: Chaney had five hits, including two triples and a double, and two RBI in Priceville’s three-game series win over Cordova. He also scored the game-winning run in the third game of the series.

Thomas Kerby, Priceville: Kerby pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on one hit while striking out 10 in Priceville’s 6-2 win in game two of their series win over Cordova.

Jackson Prickett, Priceville: Prickett had four hits and two RBI, including the game-winner in the Bulldogs’ 4-3 game three win over Cordova. He also struck out nine in five innings of work in game three of the series.

Softball

Brityan Godfrey, Hartselle: Godfrey had three hits, including a homer and a double, and three RBI in a 3-2 win over Hayden on Tuesday.

Kirsten Segars, Priceville: Segars had two hits, including a home run and five RBI, in the Lady Bulldogs’ 12-0 win over Randolph.

Kelsey Green, Maddie Black and Elizabeth Murphy, Priceville: The three combined for a no-hitter with nine strikeouts in the Lady Bulldogs’ 12-0 win over Randolph.

Tennis

Ben Carnes, Hartselle: Carnes advanced to the finals at No. 4 singles in the Class 6A boys’ state tournament.

Katie Wilbanks, Hartselle: Wilbanks advanced to the finals at No. 3 singles in the Class 6A girls’ state tournament.

Soccer

Owen Bennich, Hartselle: Bennich scored a goal and had two assists in the Tigers’ 3-1 win over Gadsden City in the first round of the 6A state playoffs.

Nick Vaughn, Hartselle: Vaughn recorded his ninth shutout of the season in a 1-0 win over Lawrence County in the Tigers’ final regular season game.
