Are you too comfortable in this world?

Todd Barrier

As a Christian, do you ever feel alienated? Have you felt out of place? Have you longed for what you read about in the Bible because this place just doesn’t seem to fit?

The good news is, these are the feelings we should feel!

If we were comfortable in this world, we would just be humming along to the tune of worldliness, like most of the world.

Sometimes we feel like we should be more at home – that we shouldn’t feel this tug against the world. However, we are “just passing through,” as the old song says. This world is not our home; we are striving for something different, something better, and we should feel uncomfortable with a lot of things that happen here on earth.

In the Bible Jesus says if the world hates us, we can remember that it hated Him first (John 15:18-19). The things we stand for are different; they are alien to this world. If we don’t feel out of place sometimes, we might not be following Jesus as closely as we should be.

So, the next time you feel so out of place in worldly situations that you are uncomfortable, just remember: It’s normal. You are striving for eternal things, and that discomfort might just mean you are resisting unrighteousness.

Tell people about it and bring someone along with you; after all. we could use some company on the journey.

Are you too comfortable in this world?
