Hartselle softball named Co-Champion of the Gulf Coast Classic

The Hartselle Lady Tigers were named the co-champion of the 30-team Gulf Coast Classic after the championship game against Athens was rained out.

Hartselle finished the tournament winning six out of eight games. Their two losses were to Daphne and 7A #2 Fairhope. In bracket play, The Lady Tigers defeated top-seed Pisgah to advance to the championship game.

Hartselle 8, Sylvania 0

Zoey Crawford pitched a four-inning shutout to lead Hartselle to the 8-0 win over Sylvania. She allowed four hits while striking out four in picking up the win. Karsi Lentz had two hits, including a triple, to lead the Lady Tigers’ offense. Kaelyn Jones, Lillyanna Cartee, and Emily Hall each had an RBI.

Hartselle 7, Alma Bryant 0

Jones and Jada Henderson each had two hits to lead the Lady Tigers to a 7-0 victory over Alma Bryant. Lentz had a home run and drove in two while Henderson drove in four. Jenna Smith gave up one hit while striking out six in the four-inning shutout.

Daphne 3, Hartselle 2

Daphne scored three in the top of the third and held off a late charge by Hartselle to win 3-2. Cartee had two hits and an RBI to lead the Hartselle offense. Lentz homered in her second consecutive game. Crawford took the loss after giving up three runs in three innings of work. She gave up eight hits while striking out one. Smith pitched two innings of relief, allowing only one hit while striking out three.

Fairhope 7, Hartselle 2

Fairhope scored seven runs over the first three innings in the Lady Pirates 7-2 win over the Lady Tigers. Cartee, Henderson, Lenta, and Brantley Drake each had a hit for Hartselle. Cartee and Henderson each had an RBI. Baylie Sparkman took the loss for the Lady Tigers after allowing six runs in two innings.

Bracket Play

Hartselle 4, Marshall Co. (TN) 3

The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and held on for a 4-3 win of Marshall Co. (TN). Seven players each had a hit for Hartselle. Alanna Evans had two RBI, while Henderson had an RBI. Crawford earned the win after following three runs on seven hits while striking out three.

Hartselle 10, Covington (TN) 2

The Lady Tigers scored ten runs in three innings in their 10-2 victory over Covington (TN). Henderson, Jones, and Larissa Preuitt each had two hits to lead the Hartselle offense. Henderson and Cartee each homered and had three RBI for the Lady Tigers. Jenna Smith earned the win after allowing two runs on four hits in three innings.

Hartselle 8, Columbia Academy (TN) 2

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 lead on their way to an 8-2 win over Columbia Academy (TN). Preuitt, Cartee, and Lentz each had two hits for Hartselle. Lentz and Henderson homered and had a combined five RBI. Crawford and Smith combined to shut down Columbia Academy, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four.

Hartselle 6, Pisgah 3

After falling behind 1-0, the Lady Tigers scored six straight in their 6-3 victory over top-seeded Pisgah. Jones, Cartee, Drake, and Hall each had a hit for the Lady Tigers. Drake and Lentz each had two RBI. Crawford earned the win after allowing three runs on six hits.
