Danville teams squash East Lawrence

GIRLS 

Danville 59, East Lawrence 34: Danville moved to 2-0 in area play with a 59-34 win over East Lawrence Dec. 8. 

The Hawks jumped out to 14-7 in the first quarter and extended the lead to 28-17 at the half. They outscored the Eagles in the second half, 31-17, to secure the victory. 

Freshman Blayne Godfrey led the Hawks (4-5) with a game-high 23 points. Her sister Brityan added 18 points, eight rebounds and six steals. 

Elisabeth Hand and Aaliyah Douglas added seven points apiece. 

Hannah Hill’s nine points led East Lawrence (0-5). 

BOYS 

Danville 60, East Lawrence 47: Three players scored in double figures to lead Danville to a 60-47 area win over East Lawrence Dec. 8. 

The Hawks hit four three-pointers in the first quarter to take a 16-8 lead. They extended the lead to 28-19 at halftime. 

The Eagles held Danville to seven points in the third as they cut the lead to 35-31 heading to the fourth, but the Hawks outscored East Lawrence 25-16 in the fourth to grab the win.  

The Hawks secured the victory by hitting 14 free throws to five for the Eagles. 

Danville (6-3) was led by Witten Morgan, who finished with 17 points and four rebounds. KJ Melson added 15 points and six rebounds, while Kohl Randolph had 13 points and eight rebounds. Dylan Parker added nine points and eight rebounds. 

East Lawrence (1-6) was led by Coleman Garner, who finished with 13 points. 

Danville 70, Phil Campbell 41: The Hawks moved to 3-0 in area play with a win over Phil Campbell. 

Danville raced out to a 21-10 first-quarter lead. The boys extended the lead to 38-17 at halftime and 55-32 after the third quarter. 

Danville was led by KJ Melson, who scored 30 points, while Kohl Randolph added 14 points and nine rebounds. Dylan Parker had 12 points. 

Luke Garrison had 10 points to lead Phil Campbell.
