Falkville drops season finale 30-14 to Winston County

The Falkville Blue Devils closed out the regular season on the road at Winston County. Winston County ran for four touchdowns in defeating the Blue Devils 30-14 in the teams’ final tune-up before the playoffs next week. 

Christian Angulo had 110 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 17 carries in the loss. He finished the regular season with 1,189 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns. 

PLAYOFF PREVIEW 

Falkville (8-2) will open the playoffs by hosting the Cleveland Panthers (7-3) out of Region 6. 

Cleveland finished third in the region behind Spring Garden and Westbrook Christian.  

The Panthers have had three games this season decided by forfeit because of COVID-19. They opened the season with wins over Oneonta and Locust Fork while taking the loss in their regular-season finale to Susan Moore. 

Cleveland is 5-2 in non-COVID related games. They are averaging 34.7 points per game on offense while allowing 15.9.  

The Panthers are led in rushing by the tandem of running back Daquarrius Phillips and quarterback Logan Washburn. Phillips has rushed for 890 yards and 14 touchdowns, while Washburn has run for 674 yards and nine scores. He has also passed for 1,265 yards and 16 touchdowns.  

Falkville enters the game averaging 37.1 points per game on offense while allowing 6.9 points. The Blue Devils recorded five shutouts in nine games. 

Cleveland leads the all-time series 10-4. The Blue Devils defeated the Panthers 35-28 in their last meeting in 2017.
