What’s so good about ‘the good news’?

By Todd Barrier

Last week I preached a sermon titled “What’s So Good About the Good News?” You can watch it anytime on the Hartselle church of Christ website or our YouTube page. The sermon is about giving people some light in these dark times.

There is a lot of bad news out there that is bringing people down. Christians talk about the good news, but we have to be able to explain to those looking for a new way of life why this news is so good. Here is a quick synopsis of the points in the lesson.

The good news is so good because of…

Its scope. God sent Jesus to save the entire world, if we are willing to submit to Him! No matter who you are, where you’re from or what you are going through, the gospel is for you!

Its hope. Our hope comes from our belief in Jesus, which provides to us a hope that doesn’t fade away. No matter the situation, Jesus is our constant! The world provides temporary hope, but once you have Jesus, you don’t have to search for hope any longer!

Its rope. The hope Jesus provides gives us a rope to hold on to during tough times. The peace God gives us through the knowledge of eternity allows us to look past the struggles of today and toward the perfection of eternity. This doesn’t mean we won’t hurt, get upset or go through the usual emotions and pain of the world; it just means the rope of hope allows us to not fall away.

Its nope. Once you become a Christian and understand the enormity of the blessing we have in the gospel of Christ, you will not be able to keep it inside! You will say, “Nope, I’m not keeping quiet; everyone needs to hear this!

John 3:16-17 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but that the world through Him might be saved.

Are you ready to tell someone what’s so good about the good news?
