Family, friends treat Morgan County woman to birthday parade

Dana Henslee organized a surprise 85th birthday parade for her mother, Shirley Blevins Pope.

May 26, family and friends – including retired coworkers from Prestolite – lined up at Battle Ground and paraded west on the Old Corn Road to Corinth West Baptist Church and made two trips around the long horseshoe driveway. Shirley was watching from the front porch.

Dana gave out bags of treats to each of the drivers in the parade.

Those participating in the birthday parade gave Shirley handmade posters, pictures and special cards and talked with her as each one stopped for a few minutes. Shirley received many cards, calls and gifts for her birthday.

A niece, Christi Reid Hunter, prepared a birthday supper for her, and several of the family members went to eat at Shirley’s home at 6:45 p.m.

She appreciated all of the celebratory activities and was very proud of the tribute and enjoyed seeing everyone.

Prayers Requested

Area residents of Danville, Massey, Hartselle and Falkville will remember Roy and Linda Calhoun from Falkville and from the Hartselle Auction when it was held at the American Legion and at Bella Vintage Antiques in Hartselle.

Tribute to Spencer Glasgow

My friend Spencer Glasgow went home to his resting place in heaven May 27.

Spencer was my friend for many years, and from time to time he was also my auctioneer at various sales. He was the most knowledgeable person I have ever known in antique glassware and collectibles. Over the years, Spencer earned the respect of his fellow auctioneers and many friends in the auction circle.

I wish God’s blessings for his wife Marilyn and their family. Spencer will be greatly missed at my Wren Auction and other auctions in Alabama.

Cedar Plains Christian Church Activities

The Rev. Clint Lee led the morning worship at Cedar Plains Christian Church at Massey May 24. Deidra Lee assisted with directing the music.

May 31, Ginny Powell Owens was the pianist, and Bill Owens assisted with the program.
