Priceville’s first half rally leads to win over Brewer

FALKVILLE – Priceville rallied from 10 points down in the second quarter to defeat Brewer 57-42 in the semi-finals of the Morgan County Tournament.

Priceville (15-8) was led by Jenna Walker, who scored a career-high 29 points.

Brewer jumped out to a 12-2 lead following the first quarter. Jacie Andrews led the charge with five points.

The Lady Patriots controlled the first four minutes of the second quarter as they maintained an eight-point lead, 19-11. Priceville dominated the last four minutes of the half as they went on a 14-2 run to grab a 25-21 lead heading into halftime. Walker scored 13 points to the lead the Lady Bulldogs surge.

Brewer started the third with a 4-0 run to tie the game at 25-25. The teams traded baskets over the next four minutes with Priceville holding a two-point lead at 34-32. The Lady Bulldogs then outscored Brewer 23-10 over the final 12 minutes of the game to get the 57-42 win.

Walker, a Western Kentucky commit, rallied just like her team. She started the game by missing her first nine shots, including three 3-point shots, in the first quarter. She rebounded over the final three quarters by finishing 10 of 13 from the field including five of seven from three-point range.

Brewer (16-9) was led by Evaiah Burrows and Elizabeth Alexander, who each had 10 points. Burrows also had nine rebounds and three steals. Jacie Andrews finished with nine points while Leisha Steger added five points and five rebounds.

COACH NELSON’S THOUGHTS

I couldn’t be more proud of the way the girls kept battling in spite of a very slow start.  They continued to fight for the next play. It was a great team win. Brewer is an outstanding basketball team with great tradition. Playing teams like Brewer this time of year will help us to continue to improve.
