Community donates more than $2K in items to Hartselle High IRC students

The Hartselle High Instructional Resource Center celebrates with a special Christmas party Dec. 13 at the school. Teachers made an Amazon wishlist this year, including items to benefit the IRC students, who have moderate to severe special needs. They posted the list on Facebook in November with a goal to have 10 items purchased for the students. The list had more than 100 items to choose from – items to remain at the school for students to use throughout the year. Community members bought more than 100 items for the students. A local family donated $100 toward items; Peck-Glasgow Insurance donated $400 for the department; and Clay Colvard with Allstate Insurance bought all of the remaining items left on the list. In all, with the gifts and donations, more than $2,200 was given by the community to support the HHS IRC department. The gifts were wrapped, and students A.J. Reeves, Dalton Lee, Zac Howard, Mason Southerland, Tristan Carver, Will Adams, Bailey Tate, L.J. Jones, Conner Lovelady and Haydn Williams opened them during a Christmas party. Student aides Melissa Sandor, Amy Butler, Wynnette Orr and Kelley Atkins, were on hand to help, along with transition coordinator, Karen Howell and special education teachers Alice Anne Glasgow and Ally McCaghren.
