Hartselle leaves Brewer with sweep

Hartselle basketball went on the road to Florette for a matchup against the Brewer Patriots. The teams split their games at Hartselle earlier in the season, with the Brewer girls and Hartselle boys coming away with wins. This time, however, it was all Hartselle.

GIRLS

Hartselle 44, Brewer 37: Masyn Marchbanks scored a game-high 24 points and hauled in nine rebounds to lead Hartselle to a 44-37 victory over Brewer.

The Lady Patriots had a 14-12 lead after the first quarter and extended that lead to 19-12 before the Lady Tigers began their rally.

Hartselle ended the second quarter on a 9-2 run to grab the halftime lead. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Patriots 21-16 in the second half to secure the victory.

Lillyanna Cartee had nine points, while Maggie McCleskey added eight for the Lady Tigers.

Brewer (6-6) was led by Evaiah Burrows, who finished with 10 points, while Jacie Andrews had nine, and Leisha Steger added seven.

Hartselle improved to 6-4 on the season.

BOYS

Hartselle 65, Brewer 34: The Tigers overcame a sluggish start and a stingy Brewer first-quarter defense to defeat the Patriots 65-34.

Brewer’s defense caused some early Tiger miscues in the first four minutes of the game, as the Tigers led 8-4.

Over the next 12 minutes of the half, the Tigers went on a 33-13 run to open up a 41-18 lead at halftime. Hartselle outscored Brewer 23-14 in the third to extend theat lead to 64-32.

Hartselle (7-2) was led by Brody Peebles, who finished with 21 points, while Kiah Key added 11 points, and Tad Sivley pulled down 12 rebounds.

Brewer (4-6) was led by Nate Gaines, who finished with eight points and five rebounds, while Kris Bramlett had seven, and Mann McLemore added six.
