Eva Frontier Days celebrates 30th anniversary

The Eva Art Guild will be hosting the 30th annual Eva Frontier Days Sept. 21-28. Festivities will kick off with a beauty pageant Sept. 21 and will end with a community-wide festival Sept. 28.

Barbara Frost is the Eva Art Guild secretary and has taken part in all 30 of the Eva Frontier Days. Frost said the events are family fun with something for everyone.

The beauty pageant will take place at Charlie’s Vineyard at Frost Farms Sept. 21 at 10 a.m.

The next event will be the community hayride Sept. 24. The hayride will cost $1 per rider, which includes the ride, a hotdog and a drink. The hayride will take place at the Eva Saddle Club at 6:30 p.m., and Frost said it is one of the most beloved parts of Frontier Days.

“That is one of our biggest events; the kids love it as much as anything,” Frost said. “It’s my favorite part of the week … We have around 27-28 tractors or trucks with trailers.”

The festival will continue with a community singing at Eva United Methodist Church Sept. 26. The singing will start at 7 p.m. at the church and is open to the community.

Sept. 27 the Eva Art Guild will welcome the band Another Town for Music on the Square. The performance will begin at 6 p.m.

The final event of the festival will take place Sept. 28, with a variety of activities throughout the day.

“Saturday really kicks off everything. We have a car show, a tractor show, crafts of all kind, all kinds of games and food, and we have a parade,” Frost said.

The festival will also include a frog jumping contest and a pig chase. “We have four to five different age groups, and we let those chase the pig. Whoever catches it gets to keep the pig, or they get to sell it. Kids love it, and some of the older ones do too,” Frost said.

The pig chase will take place at the Eva ballfields at 5 p.m. The rest of the festivities will begin at 9 p.m. The festival will include a car and tractor show, performances by Jeff Whitlow and the Old Barn Band, a baking contest and more.
