Falkville defeats Danville in season opener

By Lauren Estes

The Blue Devils opened their season against county foe Danville on the road and left with a 34-21 win.

Falkville quarterback Peyton Sallee finished 6 of 13 passing for 65 yards and one touchdown; he also racked up 25 carries for 138 yards and three touchdowns.

Wyatt King was on the receiving end for the sole touchdown catch at 43 yards.

Christian Angelo finished the night as the second-best rusher with 18 carries and 78 yards.

Jordan Greenfield also added a rushing touchdown on the night.

Luke Fitzgerald finished with 10 tackles, and Angelo had nine.

Head Coach Tyler Mitchell said the overall team effort kept the game going and made for a good first game for many newcomers.

“Peyton Sallee did a really good job at quarterback in controling the game, and in the second half, Wyatt King made a big play that helped spark the offense,” Mitchell said. “After we settled down, the defense played extremely well the second half, and that put us in a position to win the game.

“All of our players showed a lot of heart and character, and I’m proud to be their coach.”

For Danville, Cameron Moore finished the night with one touchdown, while Luke Nail had two scores.

Danville will play at Brewer Friday.

“Our plans for next week are to get better at us; we had too many mistakes to beat a really good and quality-coached team in Vinemont,” Mitchell said. “We have to get better at what we do to give us a chance to compete with them.”

Falkville will host Vinemont in a non-region game Friday night at 7 p.m.
