Prep Round-Up: Lady Bulldogs Smash Vinemont 22-0

Priceville’s softball team opened their 2019 season on Tuesday by defeating the Vinemont Lady Eagles in three innings.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped on Vinemont in the bottom of the first inning as they scored 17 runs.

Priceville tacked on another 5 runs in the second inning to make the score 22-0.

Destinee Hargrove led the Priceville attack by going 4 for 4 with two home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored. Kaitlin Barber went 2 for 2 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored.

The Lady Bulldogs had 17 hits in 26 trips to the plate including three home runs and three doubles. Every starter had a hit or scored a run in the game.

Ashlyn McDonald got the win for the Lady Bulldogs. She pitched two innings and struck out three. Steffani Schrader pitched the final inning striking out two. The pitchers combined to no-hit Vinemont.

“We hit really well and pitched pretty good but we still need to work on a few things,” said Priceville head Coach Matthew Morris. “It is always great to open with a win but there is still room for improvement. We’ll find out more about ourselves later in the week with some tougher competition.”

Baseball

Elkmont 6 Priceville 5

Priceville took the field to start the 2019 season following a week of rain that forced the cancellation of their first five games.

Priceville scored a run in each of the first five innings to take a 5-1 lead.

Elkmont would rally with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and two in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game.

Following a scoreless seventh the teams went to extra innings.

Elkmont scored the game-winning run following an error on the Priceville pitcher.

Priceville was led by Nick Walker who was 2 for 4 with a home run and a single. David Arnold went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a run scored. Priceville out-hit Elkmont ten to three.

Johnnie Keahey took the loss for Priceville after allowing three runs in three innings of relief. Rhett Lemay started the game for the Bulldogs and gave up no hits with eight strikeouts and six walks.

Jordan Fielding allowed no hits in 1⅓ innings of relief to pick up the win.

Elkmont 15 Priceville 10

In the second game of the doubleheader, Priceville gave up seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to lose 15-10.

Priceville took a 5-2 lead to the bottom of the third but saw Elkmont put six on the board to give the home team an 8-5 lead.

The Bulldogs battled back with a run in the fifth followed by three in the sixth to take a 9-8 lead.

Priceville was led by Rhett Lemay who went 2 for 5 with two RBI and a run scored.

Jordan Johnson took the loss for the Bulldogs giving up three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Nick Walker got the start for Priceville but struggled as he gave up six runs, five earned runs, and six walks in 2.1 innings.

East Lawrence 6 Danville 4

The Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first three innings.

East Lawrence put two runs on the board to cut the Danville lead to one heading to the bottom of the fourth.

Danville added a run in the fourth to extend their lead to 4-2.

The game stayed that way to the top of the seventh where East Lawrence rallied for four runs to give the visitors the 6-4 victory.

Fairview 7 Brewer 4 (Feb. 25)

Brewer fell behind early as Fairview took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Aggies added to their lead with two runs in the third and two in the fifth to give them a 5-0 lead heading to the sixth.

The Patriots put three runs on the board thanks to three errors by the Fairview defense.

Fairview scored two more in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 7-3 heading to the bottom of the seventh.

Brewer got the first two runners on but only scored one run to make the final score 7-4 in favor of the Aggies.

Brewer was led by Dalton Gilmore who went 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Dalton Gilmore got the start for the Patriots and took the loss following three innings pitched, giving up six hits and three runs while striking out two.

Dayne Black got the win for Fairview. He gave up no runs on one hit over five innings, striking out 12. Jarrett Miller pitched two innings in relief and recorded the final six outs to earn the save.
