Brewer boys fall to Arab Knights in area contest

By Russell Frye For the Enquirer

There are games when the final score is not indicative of how the game was played, and Brewer’s game against Arab was one of those. The final score, 69-50, definitely does not tell the whole story.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair between the two teams. The Patriots managed to keep the game close despite the early foul trouble, knocking down some timely shots and keeping the Knights from pulling away.

The Patriots went into halftime trailing by two points, 32-20.

The third quarter saw Arab add to its lead, but it was still anybody’s ball game heading into the fourth quarter as the Knights held on to a six-point lead.

The fourth quarter, in which Brewer has played well during several games this season, was when Arab pulled away. The Patriots went cold from the field and the free throw line.

As the Knights extended their lead, Brewer was forced to foul to try and keep the game close by making Arab make free throws. The Knights made their free throws, only missing six of 25 for the game. Arab outscored Brewer by 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Brewer was led by Levi Kelley, who scored 15 points, and Kris Bramlett, who scored 11 points.

Arab was led by Colby King, who scored a game-high 19 points; Trevor Miller, who added 15; and Logan Parker with 12.

Brewer fell to 6-14 on the season and 1-3 in area play.

The first half was dominated by the visiting Red Raiders. Their offense put up 40 points while their defense held the Patriots to 16 points.

The Patriots were unable to make a run following the halftime break. They managed to score 20 points in the second half but were not able to cut into the lead.

The Red Raiders won the game by a final score of 61-36.

Brewer was led in scoring by Kris Bramlett, Michael Childers and Levi Kelley, who each had eight points on the night.

Decatur was led by Kaden Rosencrance with 13 points and JA Berry added 10. The Patriots season record fell to 7-14.

Brewer will host Scottsboro on Tuesday, Jan. 15 and travel to Guntersville on Friday, Jan. 18. Both games are area contests.
