Danville-Need School announces spelling bee winners

The top eight contestants in the Danville-Neel School spelling bee are winner Brooke Wauford, fourth grade; runner up Mia Brannon, fourth grade; finalist Aldo Vazquez, fourth grade; finalist Callie Rae Swaim, fourth grade; Wesley Taylor, second grade; Karter Mac Jeffreys, fourth grade; Holt Moore, first grade; and Mackenzie Harris, first grade.

Danville-Neel School announces spelling bee winners

The staff at Danville-Neel School held their school Spelling Bee Nov. 29.
Each homeroom, first through fourth grade, held a classroom spelling bee, and the top two from each homeroom advanced to the school spelling bee. The spelling bee started with 36 contestants. When they got to the final eight, they still had two first-graders and one second- grader remaining in the group. Wow!
The top eight contestants were winner Brooke Wauford, fourth grade, Weatherby’s class; runner-up Mia Brannon, fourth grade, Wenzler’s class; finalist Aldo Vazquez, fourth grade, Childers’ class; finalist Callie Rae Swaim, fourth grade, Powell’s class; Wesley Taylor, second grade, Holland’s class; Karter Mac Jeffreys, fourth grade, Powell’s class; Holt Moore, first grade, Blackman’s class; and Mackenzie Harris, first grade, Nelson’s class.
The winner, Brooke Wauford, will advance to the County Spelling Bee in February. Good luck Brooke!
Lebanon Baptist Church Events
The members of Lebanon Baptist Church enjoyed having their Senior Friends Christmas lunch Dec. 4. Don and Charlotte Morris and Danny and Kathy Hogan were in charge of the event.
Dec. 9, the Lebanon children’s play, titled “It All Happened in the Country,” was presented. Mala Ogles was the director of the play. She also works with the AWANA program each Wednesday night. This is a Bible study, and one special verse is learned for each letter of the alphabet. A recent verse for the letter G was learned: Psalms 46:1, “God is my refuge and strength and ever-present help in trouble.”
Lebanon’s pastor is the Rev. Randy Ashley.
Falkville Public Library Activities
Rhona Summerford, Tina Rogers, Pam MacDonald, Kay Farrer and Jane Hill enjoyed the Falkville Public Library Christmas meal at the Hartselle Cracker Barrel Dec. 6 at 5:30 p.m. The Board gave librarian Jenny Asherbranner a monetary gift, and Jenny gave gifts to the Board members. Marie Sivley, aide, was unable to attend and will receive her gift at a later date.
Visitors for the event included Emily MacDonald, Ronnie Asherbranner and Robert Summerford and Colton.
Jenny announced to the group that the Alabama Public Library Service had sent $25 hundred to the library recently.
Their next meeting will be during the next quarter.
Mt. Zion Baptist Church hosts Christmas Cantata
The members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church hosted their Christmas Cantata, performed by the 20- member choir, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. The pianist for the event was Morgan Starret, and Dr. Jerome Ward was the director.
Dec. 4, Jerome and his wife Tracy hosted a supper for the choir at their home.

Dec. 16, the children at Mt. Zion Church presented their program at 6 p.m. Their play was directed by Lana Tapscott Tew. Afterward, the WMU and other members served refreshments in the fellowship hall.
Falkville United Methodist Church News
Matt Stringer and son Jaxon presented the Advent story and lit the second advent candle during the morning worship service Dec. 9 at Falkville United Methodist Church. The youth met Dec. 12 for their Christmas supper and to make construction paper chains in Christmas colors to decorate the fellowship hall tree. They also used candy canes to decorate with. Their program was directed by counselors Dan and Debbie Higginbotham and Susan Smith.
The youth will have their next meeting Dec. 26.
