The historic Tabernacle at Hartselle Camp Meeting recently got a facelift, complete with new pews, LED lights and a complete rewiring of the facilities.

Annual Camp Meeting kicks off June 24

Hundreds are expected to fill the pews of the Hartselle Tabernacle when Hartselle Camp Meeting kicks off June 24.

According to its website, the annual event – which is in its 119th year – began with the purpose of proclaiming faith in Jesus Christ and a lifestyle of scriptural holiness. Every year, young men and women have participated in the camp throughout the week while the community at large has turned out to participate in the revival services.

Featured speakers include Jon Tal Murphree of Toccoa Falls, Ga., and Mike Pope of Hartselle First Methodist Church. Billy and Joanna Coppedge with World Gospel Missions will be the camp missionaries. Ron and Ellen Bean will return as the music leader and platform musician this year.

The first evening will feature a special tribute to Junior Hill, during which Mayor Randy Garrison will read a proclamation in his honor. Hill will also be a featured speaker throughout the week – a tradition he has continued for more than a decade.

According to camp president Rob Cain, attendees will see a few new things this year, as the campgrounds have recently undergone a major facelift. With donated labor and $15,000, the camp completely rewired its facilities, added LED lights, built new pews and more.

The Tabernacle will be the gathering place for the two daily worship services, one at 10:30 a.m. and the second at 7 p.m. Student campers, sixth grade through college, will enjoy fellowship meals, devotionals, Bible studies and recreation time throughout the day.

While the worship services are free and open to the public, student registration for the camp is still open and costs $175. The fee includes lodging, 16 meals, the camp program and transportation to and from off-campus activities.

The event will conclude at 7 p.m. June 29. Camp president Rob Cain will preach in the final service.
