Lady Tigers enjoy successful weekend at Spain Park Classic

HOOVER – In a weekend away from the normal schedule of competition, the Hartselle softball team posted a 3-1 record at the Spain Park Classic picking up wins over McAdory, Spanish Fort and Oxford in the two-day tournament.
Hartselle 3, McAdory 2
The Lady Tigers opened pool play with a thrilling 3-2 win over McAdory on Friday. Mackenzie Jackson went 2-2 with a double and one RBI to lead the Hartselle offense. Kylie DuBose and Brooklyn Wallace also picked up RBIs in the win.
Morgyn Sparkman tossed a complete game allowing just two earned runs while striking out two.
Hartselle 11, Spanish Fort 0
In Friday’s pool play night cap, the Lady Tigers had no trouble at all taking down Spanish Fort in a dominant 11-0 effort. Katy Sparkman dazzled in the circle, allowing just two hits over four innings to earn the shutout win.
Offensively, it was the combination of Jackson and Kalli Cartee that propelled Hartselle to victory. Cartee went 2-3 with a pair of RBIs while Jackson reached base in all three plate appearances (2-2, one homerun, three RBIs and one walk). Natalie King and LaNinya Wiggins also homered for the Lady Tigers.
Hartselle 8, Oxford 3
DuBose notched a 3-3 performance and Jackson picked up her second long ball of the tournament as Hartselle defeated Oxford 8-3 on Saturday morning. Cartee and Kylie Winton picked up a pair of hits each in the win.
Morgyn Sparkman was strong again in the circle, striking out two Oxford hitters and allowing just three runs to pick up the victory.
Hayden 3, Hartselle 1
After jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Lady Tigers were unable to stave off Hayden and were eliminated from the tournament after a 3-1 setback. DuBose drove in Winton to open the scoring, but that was all the offense Hartselle could manage.
Both Katy and Morgyn Sparkman saw time in the circle combining to allow just the three runs in the abbreviated four-inning game.
The Lady Tigers improved their overall record to 3-2 on the season and will resume action on Tuesday as they kick off area play against Columbia at home.
