MCKENDREE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH HOLDS TENEBRAE SERVICE

On Friday night, April 14, McKendree United Methodist Church and Community, enjoyed supper at 5:30 p.m. and afterward Noah Battles led a praise service in the Bridge Center. Those attending sung songs with the Cross and Easter themes. Brother Mike then led a “Tenebrae” service and also the communion   service as well. Fifteen candles were lighted and he read about the trials of Jesus and the Crucifixion from the Book of John and the candles were gradually extinguished and the 15th one represented Jesus. When there was a banging signal, meaning Jesus was dead and his candle was extinguished. The congregation exited from the darkened room.

On Friday evening, March 17, the teachers and the Mennonite School children gave a very interesting program. On Sunday, March 19, a Baptismal service was held for Sylvan and Kemmily Yoder and Elizabeth and Emily Yoder and Abigail Nisly. Brother Donnie Brenneman of Virginia Beach, Va. preached the message. He is Abigail’s grandfather. Five of Abigail’s cousins were there for the service. Also attending were Abigails aunts, Deliah Brenneman and Steve and Marilyn Kauffman and others attending the service were Sylvan and LeRoy Yoder of Rutherford Tenn., also attending were relatives from Mount Gerry, Ohio. Others in attendance for the service were Menno Yoder of Hartselle, Joe Yoder and family of Crofton, Ky. and also Roseanna, Esther and Brenda Beachy and several members of the Kauffman Family also attended the service.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy goes out this week for the family of Sim Howell, the family of Preston Bryant, the family of Billy Don Eaton and also the family of Burma Hardin.

The Women’s Missionary Union at Mt. Zion Baptist Church met on Monday night, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. Beverly Murphy, presided and conducted the business session. Mother’s Day, Decoration and Memorial Day were special events that were planned for. Afterward, the group had Bible study on the topic “Talk Less-Witness More”.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week for Sandra Smith and Sandra celebrated her birthday on April 20.

April the 6-9, Marcus Yoder of Georgetown, Ohio, had a weekend meeting at the Mennonite Church. His wife, Becky Yoder and also Jacob Yoder and his wife came on Sunday, April 9 for the service in the evening. Homer Freeman and family from Goodsprings, Tenn. also came for the April 9 service at 7 p.m.                                        Our thoughts and prayers go out this week for Debbie Laney and also for Mrs. Pettey.

Special congratulations go out this week to Robert Eric Summerford Jr. and Ally Henson Summerford, on the birth of their son, Colton Thomas Joe Summerford on March 16.

Falkville United Methodist Church Congregation learned about the Honduras Mission on Easter Sunday during the worship service. The new Scotty Parker Sunday School class meets at 10 a.m. in the church parlor. Everyone is welcome to attend. The Church’s Administrative Council met on Tues., April 7 at 6:30 p.m. On Sun., April 23, “Women of Worship” presented a great event that was entertaining and inspirational.

Carolyn Besnyl and Randy Besnyl of Massey community attended a family Easter event at Terry Boyd’s in Decatur. Also attending were Rebekah and Robert Mobley, David Mobley, Carolyn Standridge, Matt Roper, Dewayne and Mandy Roper, Donna and Billy Posey and Noah Boyd. Everyone enjoyed the food and fellowship.
