Funeral for Vondale S. Merritt, 83, of Hartselle was Mon., Jan. 2,
at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Hartselle with Bro. Charles Shaddix and Bro.
Clayton Speed officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial was in Lebanon Baptist Cemetery.

Mrs. Merritt died Thur., Dec. 29, 2016, at Huntsville Hospital.
She was born June 13, 1933, in Morgan County to James Buron Shaneyfelt and
Altha Lorene Barkley Shaneyfelt.  She was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Hartselle where she was the organist for more than 30 years. She served
faithfully with her husband, Russ, as they served together in Music
Ministries in various churches in Maryland and in Alabama. Mrs. Merritt
taught music for more than 40 years and was a member of the Decatur Music Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russ Merritt and her parents.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Merritt of Hartselle and a sister, Rowena Muth (Russell) of Hartselle.
Pallbearers were Mike Tyler, Tony Tyler, Keith Smith, Bill Dobbs, Don
Crow and Henry Griffin.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church.
