Robert “Bob” Dean Spurlin

A graveside service for Robert “Bob” Dean Spurlin, 70, was Sat., April 9, at 3 p.m. at Antioch Cemetery in Somerville with Stanley Ryan and Paul Spurlin officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Spurlin died Thur., April 7, 2016, at his residence. He was born Oct. 20, 1945, in Morgan County to Robert Ford Spurlin and Anne Hilda (Dean) Spurlin. He graduated from Cotaco High School and from The Memphis School of Preaching. He was a retired minister of Churches of Christ preaching for many congregations in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Florida. He authored three inspirational books that touched many lives. He was a native of the Union community of Somerville. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967. Mr. Spurlin was disabled due to Multiple Sclerosis since 1995. He was preceded in death by his mother; a daughter, Bethany Ann Spurlin; and a brother, Thomas Gary Spurlin.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Beverly Spurlin; son, Paul Spurlin (Stephanie); father, Robert F. Spurlin; two brothers, Jere Spurlin (Ginger) and Calvin Spurlin; sister, Ruby Johnson; two grandchildren, Laney Rose and Tyler Paul Spurlin; brother-in-law, Randy Harrod; and sister-in-law, Lana Boatner.

Pallbearers were Jere Spurlin, Calvin Spurlin, Randy Harrod, Jonathan Terry, Will Spurlin and Jimmy Moody.
