Tigers split with Trojans

Hartselle hands Muscle Shoals first loss

Baseball season is underway and the Hartselle Tigers hosted the Muscle Shoals Trojans for a double-header on Mon., Feb. 29.

The Tigers got down early as Muscle Shoals took a 1-0 lead going into the second inning. However, Zeth Malcolm, Collin Blackwood and Taylor Easterling would all get on base in the bottom of the second. Errors from the Trojans would allow Blackwood and Easterling to score and Hartselle would take a 2-1 lead into the third inning. However, The Tigers would leave runners on both second and third base.

In the third inning, Muscle Shoals would retake the lead 3-2 after a two-run homerun. Hayden Bradford would single and then advance to second and third from Trojan errors. Brady Netherton would then drive Bradford in to tie the game 3-3.

The score would remain that way until the last inning. Muscle Shoals would take a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the 7th inning.

Hartselle would load the bases with no outs as they tried to take the win. Netherton would then knock in a pair of runs to tie the game 5-5. First basemen Austin Parker would finish the game with a walk off single to give Hartselle the win 6-5 and hand Muscle Shoals their first loss of the season. Brady Netherton would take the win on the mound.

The second game would start out much like the first as Muscle Shoals took an early 1-0 lead. In the third inning, a couple of walks by Garrett Wade and Riley Wood as well as hits by Connor Burks and Austin Parker would allow Hartselle to take a 3-2 lead. However, in the fourth inning Muscle Shoals’ bats would begin to get going. The Trojans would finish the inning with 9 hits in the game and take an 8-3 lead. Muscle Shoals would go on to win the game 13-4.
