Burleson and BBES observe Grandparents Week

F. E. Burleson Elementary School observed Grandparents Week Oct. 5-9 along with its Annual Fall Book Fair.

An open house was observed Monday evening, Oct. 6, to kick off the weeklong book fair. A PTO meeting was conducted at the same time.

A Grandparents Day was observed for each grade level during the week. Grandparents were invited to visit the school, eat lunch with their grandson or granddaughter and accompany them to the book fair for the purchase of a library book.

First graders planned a special music program to entertain their grandparents on Oct. 7. Under the direction of newcomer music teacher Stephanie Porter, they sang on stage in the outdoor classroom. The songs they selected were “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad.” “She’ll Be Coming Around the Mountain,” and “O Suzanna.”

“The response has been great so far, perhaps the best ever,” said Principal Debbie Queen, after observing the turnout for first grade Grandparents  Day Oct. 7. “We expect even bigger numbers for kindergarten Grandparents Day on Friday.

Barkley Bridge Elementary School observed Grandparents Week September 14 -15. Grandparents were invited to eat with their grandchildren according to the specified day of the week. The school also observed their annual Book Fair during the same time period. The grandparents could eat with their grandchild and then move onto the Book Fair where they were able to purchase books for their grandchildren and help the school at the same time.
