UPDATED: Wilson to stay in Hartselle

Dr. Vic Wilson will continue in his role as the superintendent of Hartselle City Schools.

Wilson contacted the president of the Hoover City Schools Board of Education Thursday evening and withdrew his name from consideration as a candidate for the superintendent’s position.

Wilson said he was not willing to leave Hartselle right now.

“Hoover is a wonderful place, but Hartselle has become home,” Wilson said. “The people of Hartselle have really embraced us. When I went to the ball park Tuesday night for Emma’s ball game before the council meeting, all the young children were running up and telling me ‘Hey, Dr. Wilson.’ I’m just thrilled to be here.”

Wilson will soon enter into contract renewal negotiations with the Hartselle City Board of Education.

“I’m sure whatever the board decides financial-wise will be equitable for both my family and the system,” Wilson said.

Wilson’s current contract with Hartselle City Schools ends July 15, 2016 with a salary of $132,000.

Hartselle Board of Education Chairwoman Monty Vest said she felt his decision would benefit Hartselle.

“We appreciate his commitment to the Hartselle school system,” Vest said. “We are confident our system will benefit for years to come from his leadership.”

Hartselle BOE Vice Chairman Randy Sparkman said Wilson’s good reputation is an asset to the schools.

“Dr. Wilson has the creditability as an education leader that has given him as well as Hartselle a seat at the table in Montgomery,” Sparkman said. “With that privilege comes opportunities for our kids.”

“We have already started lots of good things, and I want to be able to help see them through,” Wilson said.
