The newly opened Linda Duran Public Library in Priceville observed open house at its new location on North Bethel Road Sunday afternoon.

The event was attended by an estimated 200 people, including Mayor Melvin Duran and members of the town council, Friends of the Library and guests.

A ribbon cutting was conducted and refreshments were served.

Duran welcomed attendees and thanked librarian Paula Hensley and her staff, Friends of the Library, Library Committee, town employees and many volunteers for working together as a team to make the library transition a successful one.

“It was a total team effort that got us here,” Duran pointed out. “A lot of hard work and persistent was required to get the job done. It was made possible by everyone getting involved and making a contribution.”

“This is a great source of community pride,” he added. “It’s safer than the old library and has plenty of parking space.”

Hensley said the library has added 42 members since it opened a few weeks ago, and users can choose from over 4,000 books and 2,000 movies.

“With the amenities we offer, I expect to see the library continue to grow,” she stated.”

State Senator Arthur Orr was one of the guests at the open house and he used the occasion to commend the town’s officials for providing their residents with excellent library services.

“Good things don’t happen if you don’t have good leadership,” he noted. “Priceville has good leadership.”

Duran responded by promising the crowd, “Priceville is going to have a civic center one of these days.”

“I can’t say when,” he added, “but it will happen sooner than later if all of you will do more shopping in Priceville.”
