Hartselle ranked 13th best place in state for home ownership

Hartselle is ranked the 13th best place for home ownership in Alabama, according to a study by NerdWallet.

The analysis looks at the answers to three questions: Are homes available?

Can you afford to live there? Is the area growing?

Hartselle’s home ownership rate is 75 percent with median selected monthly homeownership costs being $1,097 while the median household income is $4,336, making the percentage of the monthly costs average at 25.3 percent.

The median house value is $128,000 while the population growth in 2010-2012 was estimated at 2.9 percent, giving Hartselle a score of 65.1.

“Alabama offers remarkably affordable options for homebuyers,” said Maggie Clark, an analyst with NerdWallet. “In 17 of the top 20 places, homeowners spent less than 30 percent of their median household income on homeowner costs, and that figure drops to 25.3 percent for Hartselle residents.”
