Falkville falls to Decatur Heritage in 1A playoffs

Falkville’s Blue Devils were eliminated by Decatur Heritage 10-1 and 5-3 in the second round of the Class 1A state baseball playoffs Friday.

Falkville led 1-0 in the first inning of the first game before giving up four runs on the second inning and failing behind for good against Decatur Heritage.

For Falkville, Alston Howard had two singles and scored a run, Dallas Mayer had a pair of singles, Ryan Bradford and Tanner Evans each singled and knocked in a run and Hunter Woodall had a pair of stolen bases and scored a run.

Bradford was the losing pitcher. He allowed five runs on nine hits while striking out seven batters.

In the second game, the Blue Devils fell behind by three runs in the first inning and were never able to recover. Their lone run came in the top of the sixth inning.

Howard paced Falkville in hitting with a pair of singles. Mayer and Bryant Hester each had a hit and Bradford had a RBI.

Evans was the losing pitcher. He allowed five runs on five hits while walking two batters in one and two third innings. Howard pitched four and one-third innings in relief, allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out three batters. and walking one.
