Malcolm’s home run lifts Hartselle over Pelham

Zeth Malcolm hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Hartselle a 5-3 win over Pelham Wednesday night at Reuben Sims Field.

After Pelham took the lead in the top of the sixth, the Tigers (1-2) rallied in the bottom of the stanza. Jorden Robinson was hit by a pitch and moved to third base on Tate Mathis’ double. That set up Malcolm’s shot to left field with no outs in the inning.

Dakota Fowler earned the win on the mound with five strikeouts. He allowed one earned run on four hits with one walk.

Pelham struck first on Boomer Merchison’s RBI single in the second inning.

Hartselle scored two runs in the fourth inning despite not getting a hit. Mathis was hit by a pitch, scoring Tanner Oakes. Brady Wallace drew a bases-loaded walk to score Daniel Conley.

Pelham’s Sam Finnerty tied the game up in the fifth inning with a solo home run. The Panthers took the lead as Hunter Stovall scored on an error in the sixth inning.

Hayden Bradford was the only other Hartselle batter to get a hit in the game.
