Brewer rolls to regional finals

JACKSONVILLE – No. 2 Brewer shot 60.5 percent from the field to roll past Ramsey 64-44 during the Class 5A Northeast Regional at the Pete Mathews Coliseum Wednesday.

Brewer will face area rival Arab Friday at 12:20 p.m. The Lady Knights are 2-1 against Brewer.

Riley Northway led the way with a near perfect performance of her own. She finished 8-for-9 from the field, including 2-for-2 from the 3-point line, for 20 points and 12 rebounds. Savana Flack added 12 points and six rebounds while Cheyenne McLemore had 11 points and three assists.

Emily Oden also scored nine points with four assists followed by Jennifer Childers with six points, Tamera Chatman with five points and Malerie Drinkard with a free throw.

The Lady Patriots scored the first six points of the game and never looked back, taking a 23-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 33-16 lead at the half.

Ramsey made a surge at the beginning of the third quarter, cutting the Brewer lead to 12 points. That was as close as it got.

Brewer pushed the lead back to 20 points at the end of the third quarter and then extended the advantage to 28 points midway through the fourth quarter.

That allowed Brewer coach Ricky Allen to rest his starters the rest of the way.
