Tiger soccer team finishes 2nd at Birmingham tourney
The Hartselle High varsity boys soccer team took second in the bronze division of the Lakeshore Shootout in Birmingham this weekend.
Friday night, the Tigers tied Crossville 1-1 and beat Clay-Chalkville 4-2.
Saturday morning, the Tigers dominated Tuscaloosa County 4-0, thanks to a hat trick from junior Dolan Golden. In the championship game, the Tigers lost a heartbreaker, conceding the only goal of the game in the final minute.
Forward Dolan Golden, keeper Cordell Hayes, and fullback Austin Davis earned all-tournament honors.
The Tigers open at home Tuesday night. The varsity girls play Albertville at 5, and the varsity boys play Guntersville at 7.
Hartselle boys win at Arab
The Hartselle High School boys soccer teams opened the season Monday night with a pair of wins at Arab. The JV boys won 4-0 as the snow fell thanks to a pair of goals from Manny Gonzalez and Beau Nosal each.
The varsity boys also won 1-0. Senior Jacob Pohl scored off a cross from sophomore Branden Walker in the 17th minute. In the 30th minute Brock Hickman earned a penalty, but the Tigers failed to score it.
Goalkeepers Cordell Hayes and Austin Davis held the shut out thanks to two diving saves by Davis late in the second half.
