Lady Tigers end season at regionals

Hartselle High School’s Lady Tigers, 43-13-1, ended their season on a losing note as they fell to Lawrence County 1-0 in the North Regional Softball Tournament in Huntsville on Saturday.

The Lady Red Devils scored the winning run in the first inning on the strength of a two-out walk and a double. Hartselle had runners in scoring positions three times after the first inning but couldn’t come up with the hit they needed to score.

Hartselle out-hit LCHS 4-3. Taylor Wascavage had a pair of singles and Ashley Boggs and Sarah Ellen Battles each singled.

Jada Hayes pitched three and two-thirds innings and was credited with the loss. She allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three. Haley Jared pitched two and one-third innings in relief, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out four batters.

“Our players don’t have a thing of which to be ashamed,” said head coach Christy Ferguson. “They left everything on the field. In the end, it boiled down to which team was going to be able to score. They got the hit they needed and we didn’t.

“It was a great year for the Lady Tigers and I’m proud of them all,” she added.

She said the team will resume workouts but no summer camps are planned because all of the girls play travel ball in the off-season.
