Falkville pursues town hall upgrade

Falkville Town Council authorized Councilman David Carroll to pursue an agreement with Leonard & Associates of Cullman for architectural services for a future expansion of the town’s Municipal building at its regular meeting on May 7.

Carroll reported he expects the architect’s fee for the project to run about $2 per square feet or between $2,000 and $3,000.

Mayor Bob Ramey said after the meeting preliminary plans call for the building to be enlarged with an addition on the south side. It will provide additional space for the courtroom as well as two offices, an evidence room and public restrooms. It will also serve as the new location for the police department.

“This is much needed to provide accommodations for monthly municipal court sessions as well as providing space in the municipal building for our police officers,” Ramey pointed out. “We have money in the court fund and it can be used to make-court-related improvements.”

Ramey said the cost estimate is $200,000.
