Hartselle track teams place 1st, 3rd at CHS

Hartselle High School’s track team pulled off one of its best performances of the season on Saturday at the Cullman-St. Bernard Pre-Sectional Invitational.

The Lady Tigers placed first in eight events and won the team trophy with 150 points. In the boy’s division, Hartselle came in first in four events and finished third as a team behind Cullman and Tanner with 99 points.

Senior Quanesha Burks, a University of Alabama signee, carried the load for Hartselle’s girls with first place finishes in all four events she entered. She won the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 12.43 and 25.83, respectively, and finished first in both the long and triple jumps with distances of 18-10.50 and 38-11, respectively.

The other first place winners in the girls division were: Reagan Bowling, 800-meter run. 2:33-07; Billie Shelton, 300-meter hurdles, 50.81; Taylor Barnett, 3200-meter run, 12:44.84; and the 4×400 meter relay team consisting of Bowling, Jessica Hickerson, Shelton and Megan Zuck.

Zuck also finished second in the triple jump and fourth in the 200-meter dash. Savannah Holmes came in second in the javelin throw, Kelsey Ray Walling finished third in the pole vault and Alley Orr came in fourth in the javelin throw.

First place winners in the boys division were: Mason McGee, 110-meter hurdles, 16.18;

Steven Cleek, 400-meter dash, 52.64 and 300-meter hurdles, 42.35; and Chase Barrett, Cleek, Johnathan Duncan and Hunter Grantland, 4×400 meter relay team.

Barrett, Aaron Davis, Johnathan Duncan and John Paulsen came in first in the 4×800 meter relay, Grantland finished second in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, Aaron Davis won second place in the 3200-meter run, Duncan came in fourth in the 1600-meter run and Paulsen finished fifth in the 800-meter run

Fourteen teams were represented in the competition.
