HHS girls soccer second in Gulf Coast Classic tourney

The ninth-ranked Hartselle girls soccer team (8-4-1) finished second in the Gulf Coast Classic soccer tournament this past weekend in Gulf Shores.

In pool play, Hartselle beat Wetumpka HS 4-0. Susie Barriault had two goals and an assist. Amber Hicks and Lauren Haskins each had a goal. Sarah Horner and Alycia Timm also had assists. Chasity Golden had a shutout in the goal.

Also in pool play, Hartselle beat the host Gulf Shores 3-0. Amber Hicks had a pair of goals and Hanna Brown added another goal. Assists were by Susie Barriault, Chasity Golden and Cady Hensley. Golden had the shutout in goal.

In the championship bracket semifinals, the Lady Tigers beat Prattville 1-0 in a penalty kick shootout.

Hartselle won the shootout 4-3 with Alycia Timm, Susie Barriault, Amber Hicks and Lindsey Woodruff making their kicks. Chasity Golden had the shutout in regulation and two saves during the shootout.

In the final, Hartselle lost to Mary G Montgomery 3-1.

“We fell behind 1-0 and tied it up 1-1 before we ran out of gas,” said coach Jeff Roberts. “The girls had a great tournament and left everything out on the field and I am extremely proud of them.”

The goal was by Amber Hicks with the assist by Susie Barriault.

Hartselle and all of the county teams started play in the Morgan County Tournament Monday night at the Jack Allen Soccer Complex in Decatur.

Pool play continues through Wednesday. The semifinals are set for Thursday and the finals on Saturday morning.
