Hartselle JV volleyball team claims county title

Hartselle’s JV volleyball team won four straight matches to win the Morgan County JV Tournament at Brewer on Tuesday. Hartselle High School’s JV volleyball team (36-4) swept through four opponents without a defeat to capture the 2012 Morgan County volleyball championship at Brewer High School Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers defeated West Morgan 25-20, 25-22 in the title match after knocking out Austin 25-13, 25-11 in the semifinals.

They drew a bye in the quarterfinals after sweeping Decatur 25-15, 25-4 and Priceville 25-5-25-17 in pool play matches.

For the tournament, Bailey Powell led the Lady Tigers in kills with 23 while Mary Claire Swann followed with 19. Jordan Barbrey had 39 assists. Hannah Warren scored 31 digs and Morgan Braun had 11 aces.

West Morgan put up a hard fight in the second set of the championship contest. They led early and matched the Lady Tigers point for point for most of the set. The two teams were tied at 19-all, after which Hartselle gained control and won going away.

The Lady Rebels advanced in the final round by defeating a gritty Danville team 25-23, 27-25 in the semifinals.

Austin advanced to the semifinals by defeating Brewer in the quarterfinals.

Teams from Falkville, Decatur, Priceville and Decatur Heritage also competed in the tournament.

Hartselle’s Jordan Barbrey, Hannah Warren, Bailey Powell and Mary Claire Swann were named to the all-county team. The team also included Kaitlin Cheatham, Katie Auros, and Savannah Stephenson from West Morgan, Haley Cox and Caity Jet from Brewer, Regan Burcham and Brittney Linderman form Danville, Shelby Floyd and Madison Keith from Austin, Victoria Guthrie from Falkville, and Averi Dupont and Brynna Greenwell from Priceville.
