The Hartselle Board of Education will have a work session Monday at 6 p.m. in the central office to discuss what direction the system will take with regard to the Hartselle softball’s facilities after the new high school opens.

School Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed believes the school board use this opportunity to take public input during the work session.

“I can’t tell you what the format will be, but I believe the board will allow the public to speak during the meeting,” Reed said. “The board will have to make that decision on Monday. However, the board will not take any action at this meeting. It is strictly a work session. Any action would be taken at a later board meeting.”

Reed said the school system’s attorney would be present at the meeting.

The decision by the school system to not provide new on-campus training facilities for softball has drawn criticism from some softball parents. Some have even said raised the question whether the decision violated Title IX, since football and baseball are sharing a $2 million training complex.

Also, baseball will have a regulation practice field on campus along with another 200-foot practice field.

At a previous board meeting, Reed indicated that softball would get the high school baseball facility on the current high school site and that renovations would be made before softball takes it over.
