Blood drive planned at Shady Grove Baptist

Shady Grove Baptist Church will sponsor a blood drive Sun., Sept. 9, from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support a worthy cause. Remember, the life you save could be your own or that of a loved one.

Danville Volunteer Fire Department will host a Swamp John fundraiser Sat., Sept. 8, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $10 per plate and the proceeds will help the fire department.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church extend Christian love and prayers to Ken Callahan and family in the death of his grandmother, Stella “Polly” Callahan, Tracy LaRoche and family in the deaths of her aunt, Donna Grosdema and cousin, Kalania Idison, and Ruby Self and family in the death of her sister-in-law, Mildred Self Johnson.

Joe and Rachel Slate and Martha Jackson enjoyed a trip to Huntsville on Friday night, Aug. 4, where they attended the play “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” at the Renaissance Theatre.

The play was presented by “The Antiquarian Performers,” directed by Rhiannon M. Bacon and featured many wonderful characters. We really enjoyed the play and the performances of all of the characters.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church extended loving memories for the following deceased church members recently: John E. Hughes, May 5, 1918 – July 8, 2012; Marvolene Herbert, May 8, 1929 – July 4, 2012; Carole Sue Ramsey, Nov. 13, 1942 – Aug. 7, 2011; and Grace Taylor, Aug. 8, 1907 – June 13, 2009.
