Commission informed about schools foundation

Anne Vest, director of special projects for Morgan County Schools, briefed the Morgan County Commission on the status of the recently established Morgan County Schools Foundation at a regular meeting July 10.

She pointed out that the Foundation was established as a support arm of instructional programs in Morgan County Schools. Its immediate objective is to raise funds in support of a “Leader in Me – 7 Habits” program throughout the school system.

“The foundation is non-profit and headed by voluntary directors,” Vest pointed out. “They share the same goal of making Morgan County Schools reach every student and maximize the opportunities they have to be successful. It’s also a separate entity from the school system and contributions are tax-deductible.”

“We’ve had some success with fundraising but are still looking for help,” she added. “We feel like that will happen as more people learn about the foundation and its goals.

Vest pointed out that the foundation’s inaugural fundraiser, “The Power of 100,” will continue through August. Anyone making a $100 contribution from that unit will be named and listed as a founding partner.
