Relay for Life officials are painting the purple in preparation for the annual Hartselle area Relay for Life at J.P. Cain Stadium on April 20-21.

To help with that, Hartselle High School students from the National Honor Society and the Key Club hung a number of purple bows along Main Street at the end of March.

Kelley Redmond, a volunteer for the annual event, said these bows are partly a fundraiser and a way to help raise awareness about cancer.

“These businesses donated money to have the bows hung in front of their businesses,” Redmond said. “We’re thankful that they want to support this cause, but we want everyone to get involved with painting the town purple.”

Purple is the color associated with Relay for Life, which is an annual fundraiser and event to raise awareness about cancer. The event will honor cancer victims and survivors.

Redmond said by hanging the purple bows businesses show their support of Relay for Life and to those who are dealing with cancer now or cancer survivors.

“We would love to see purple ribbons all over town,” Redmond said.
