Spring is here! It officially arrived on Tuesday, March 20. Perhaps you have been caught up in the beauty of fresh green grass and blooming azaleas bushes and dogwood trees. Perhaps you have felt the need to do some cleaning and sprucing up around your home and premises.

If you have, you’re in luck. Help is on its way!

Hartselle’s Public Works Department is offering free curbside pick-up on unwanted, worn-out household appliances, lawn and garden equipment and accessories and other junk Monday through Saturday, March 26-31. Not included are pressure treated lumber, tires, batteries, roofing, paint, chemicals and garbage.

All you have to do to take advantage of this offer is to carry unwanted items to the street and leave them at a location where they can be easily picked up and loaded with hydraulic equipment.

During the same time, Morgan County Commission is observing its annual “Spring Clean-up.” District shops 2, 3 and 4 will be drop-off locations for household junk on their premises during regular operating hours Monday through Thursday and Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m. District 1 shop will accept junk from 7 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 31, only.

In addition, the Decatur-Morgan County Landfill will accept the same items at no charge throughout “Spring Clean-up” week.

At the same time Morgan County Adopt-A-Mile is encouraging volunteers to remove all litter from street and road rights-of-way and other public property.

This is a win-win for both governmental entities and the public. On the one hand, the county commission is full-filling its responsibility to foster and promote a clean, safe and aesthetically pleasing environment. On the other, the homeowner is doing his or her part to be a responsible citizen and a good neighbor.

By springing into action now, you can do your part to achieve a cleaner city and county and save some time and a few bucks at the same time.
