Blue Ribbon Day

Principal Sherry Calvert described briefly the process the school staff went though to achieve Blue Ribbon School “Lighthouse School” status.

“We had to pass a difficult test,” she pointed out. “A team of evaluators looked at everything about the school; we were judged against nine standards. After visiting with us, they made recommendations, and we were granted the highest possible award.

“We’re proud to be a Lighthouse School but we’re still not where we want to be. We’ll continue to take steps to improve.”

Framed certificates of appreciation were presented to the school’s teaching and support staffs by Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Nancy Horton.

Also presented to offer their congratulations were School Board members Jennifer Sittason, chairwoman, and Monte Vest and Mayor Dwight Tankersley.

Each grade presented a song or skit to highlight the celebration, and the fifth grade led all students in a concluding cheer.
