Funeral for Erskine Speegle, 80, of Hartselle was Mon., Jan. 2, at 1:30 p.m. at Hartselle First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Robert Sparkman, Bobby Ray Halbrooks and Harold Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial was in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.

Mr. Speegle died Fri., Dec. 30, 2011, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Mar. 4, 1931, in Morgan County to Charlie Speegle and Carrie Halbrooks Speegle. He was a member of Hartselle First United Methodist Church and the Haynes Sunday School Class, a veteran and basketball player of the U.S. Navy, a member of the Morgan County Sports Hall of Fame and a retired supervisor from Wolverine Tube after 37 years. He enjoyed traveling to all of the states in his motor home and was a member of the Wheeler Basin Good Sams Club. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Speegle and a sister, Nellie Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Moore Speegle; two sons, Tim Speegle and wife Jeanna of Trussville and Jeff Speegle and wife Lisa of Hartselle; two sisters, Louise Vachule of Pasadena, Tex. and Martha Ann Couey of Hartselle; four grandchildren, Clint Speegle and wife Cam, Celia Speegle, Peyton Speegle and Carson Speegle

Pallbearers were Peyton Speegle, Carson Speegle, Brad Speegle, Daniel Engle, Kenny Sharrott, Bobby Speegle Jr., Brent Walling and Ken Engle.

Members of the Wheeler Basin Good Sams Club were honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Hartselle First United Methodist Church Capital Fund or the Good Samaritan Fund.
