Hartselle’s Tigers outscored Brewer’s Patriots 18 to10 points in overtime to grab their third Class 5A, Area 13 win at Randolph Ryan Gym Friday night.

After nine lead changes and nine ties, the score was knotted at 50-all at the end of four quarters.

Hartselle quickly took charge in OT with Aaron Wooley and Prestyn Wallace each knocking down a three to push the Tigers to a 61-52 advantage midway through the overtime. The final score was 68-59 in Hartselle’s favor.

The Tigers struggled in the first half and had to fight back from a 10-18 first quarter deficit. They pulled to within two points at halftime at 23-25 and both teams were locked at 37-all after three quarters of play.

The win gave the Tigers a 3-2 record on the season and a 3-0 mark against area opponents. The Patriots dropped to 2-10 on the season.

“We didn’t play very well, especially early in the game,” said Hartselle head coach Keith Wright, “but Aaron (Wooley) stepped up his game in OT and helped us finish strong. He’s not very vocal on the court but he does a good job of leading by example.”

“I thought we played as well as we have all year,” said Brewer head coach Sam Brown. “But Hartselle made some big shots at the end and that was the difference in the game.”

Wooley paced the Tigers with 18 points. He was followed by Preston Adams with 14 points and three assists and Timbo Slaten with 13 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.

Cody Benitez paced the Patriots with 17 points. David Jeffrey followed with 12 points and Brandon Elder chipped in 10 points and had four assists. Garrett Tucker was credited with nine points and five steals.
