Hartselle among winners in cheer competition

Hartselle won the non-building division of the AHSAA Cheer Competition on Nov. 19 at Wallace State Community College.

The other varsity squad winners were Meek, Sand Rock, Winfield, North Jackson, Cullman, Hazel Green and Sparkman.

There were 1,283 participants from 54 varsity teams and 28 junior high/junior varsity squads competing in the 15th annual event administered by the Universal Cheerleaders Association. The squads in the varsity and junior classic competitions went through their routines before more than 2,600 fans.

Meek, Sand Rock, Winfield, North Jackson and Sparkman repeated as varsity winners.

The varsity winners and runners-up by divisions:

Class 1A – Meek (winner), Shoals Christian (runner-up)

Class 2A – Sand Rock (winner), Providence Christian (runner-up)

Class 3A – Winfield (winner), Piedmont (runner-up)

Class 4A – North Jackson (winner), Springville (runner-up)

Class 5A – Cullman (winner), Walker (runner-up)

Class 6A – Hazel Green (winner), Bob Jones (runner-up)

Coed – Sparkman (winner), Marbury (runner-up)

Non-Building – Hartselle (winner), Mary Montgomery (runner-up)
